boot

Project omschrijving

Located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Technip MHB Hull Engineering (TMH) provides engineering services for the conversion of oil tankers into FPSO’s (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) and also designs semi-submersibles, TLP’s (Tension Leg Platform) and Spars. One of their projects involves the conversion of an Aframax vessel. A critical system placed on the FPSO is the Mooring installation, which keeps the facility on station and ensuring proper function of the risers.

Aandeel BENK PROJECTS

BENK PROJECTS was responsible for the deployment of a Structural Engineer, located in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

The Mooring installation consists of a chain stopper, a fairlead and additional required support structure. For me, as a structural engineer, calculation and validation with respect to strength, buckling and fatigue of the mooring support structure is the main focus. Does it have enough strength to counter the mooring forces? Does the material not buckle out under compression? And after 10-20 years, is the structural integrity still intact to function according to the requirements?
